FRF has decided to enter into a strategic partnership with Sportec Solutions in the VAR sector for the next 7 years
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF), EAD, and Sportec Solutions AG have signed a VAR partnership through 2033. The seven-season agreement aims to modernize and future-proof Video Assistant Referee (VAR) services, strengthening the quality and transparency of officiating in line with the standards of Europe’s top leagues.
From summer 2026, Sportec Solutions will provide a complete VAR system, including hardware, software, training, maintenance, and its proprietary Accelerated Virtual Offside Line (AVOL PRO) technology. Using dedicated 4K cameras installed in every Superliga stadium, AVOL PRO significantly speeds up offside decisions while providing additional viewing angles and enhanced image quality for incident reviews.
The solution is powered by Sportec Solutions’ Vieww technology, enabling ultra-low-latency signal transmission and precise frame synchronization. Together with FRF, the company will also establish a centralized VAR hub in Mogoșoaia, allowing all Romanian matches to be monitored from a single location. The hub will improve operational efficiency, reduce travel and logistics costs, and position Romania as a regional leader in VAR technology and services, with the potential to support international competitions and neighboring markets.
Christian Holzer, CEO of Sportec Solutions AG, explains: “We are delighted with the trust placed in us and with this long-term partnership. Romania is a new and strategically important market for us. Together, we want to contribute to supporting refereeing at the highest technological level and to the sustainable improvement of the competition’s quality.”
The President of the Romanian Football Federation, Răzvan Burleanu, also emphasizes the importance of the decision: “We are currently experiencing a profound transformation in how football is organized, monitored, played, and viewed. This development requires continuous investment and targeted measures to sustainably strengthen the competitiveness of Romanian professional football. With this initiative, the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) underscores its commitment to continuing to support professional clubs as a reliable service provider. Together with its strategic partner EAD and the technology provider Sportec Solutions AG, a professional hub system is being implemented, aligned with the standards of leading international competitions. This will ensure that clubs, referees, and fans benefit from the highest levels of fairness, transparency, and professionalism – as part of further projects that share the same vision.”
“EAD has been an active partner in introducing the VAR system to the Superliga, contributing from the very beginning to the implementation of this technology in Romanian football. Today, we are taking the next step together, one that concerns not only technological modernization but also the long-term sustainability of the VAR system. Through this partnership, we are investing in infrastructure at European standards, which will provide referees with higher-performance tools that will lead to an increase in the quality of the competition and bring more transparency and trust for clubs, players, and fans. We are happy to be, alongside the Romanian Football Federation and Sportec Solutions, part of this new stage of development for Romanian football,” stated Orlando Nicoară, EAD Director.
